Loving this Australian Life!

Sorry I haven't updated my blog in awhile! Still loving it here! It scares me that I've already been here for about a month- time is flying by way too fast! I really do just need to stay here for the rest of my life, but all of my friends and family need to move here with me because I already miss them/you all so much!!!

Last week was definitely one of the best weeks I've had here! My classes all went well, although I find it hard to sit still for the whole 2-3 hours. I dropped the animal diversity and ecology class, which is unfortunate because I think it would have been the best class I'd ever take, but I really needed to drop it.

Last week I became extremely close friends with Amy ("Ames") and her roommates- Bianca ("B") from Australia, Mats ("Mat") from Norway, and Pat ("Pato") from Australia, and I seriously love them all. On Sunday, Amy and I decided to go to the beach. We saw our friend Kyle (the guy we hung out with at the zoo) and his friend and we headed to the beach together. Once we got to the beach we met a big group of Germans who were all really nice. One of them had a guitar so he played music while we laid on the beach. Then we went to a little restaurant where the guys all ordered fish and chips. (By the way, all french fries here are called chips, but so are potato chips, so it gets very confusing!) It was interesting to talk to them and learn about Germany. I seriously LOVE meeting so many people from different countries here! It really makes me want to travel the whole world!!!

Me and Amy! Notice the shirt- totally representing App here in the land down under! :)

So I've been calling this beach Mooloolaba, but it's actually Alex Head's. Both beaches are extremely close to each other so it's confusing!

Amy and I with our new German friends!

Wanted to be out on that sailboat!

This is the second sunset I've seen like this since I got here- SO cool!

The next day I got out of class at 12 and Pat asked me if I wanted to come "sunbake" (tan!) with him, Amy, and Mat on their porch. I brought over my hammock, which was a big hit!

Mat!

While we were sunbaking, I told everyone we should go to the beach (of course!) and Pat and Amy were up for it (Mat had class). Pat invited his Aussie friend Jason and the four of us headed to Mooloolaba in Pat's car (so nice to have friends with cars haha!). It was a little warmer than usual so it was awesome! We laid on the beach and then went for a walk down the beach. Then we decided to go play pool at a local bar. The girls played the boys, which was pretty pathetic, but really fun!

 THIS is Mooloolaba!
There are flags to designate areas in the water that lifeguards have watch over!

 Amy!

 Amy, Pat, and me!

Jason had the idea to get a picture of me and Amy looking like we're walking on water...

YAY for jumping pictures, even though Amy's jump was way better than mine!

 Me, Jason, Amy, and Pat!

People were about to go kayaking right as we were leaving the beach! Definitely want to do this soon!

 Such an expert pool player!

There was a super cool aquarium!

The next day, Tuesday, Helen and I walked to the grocery store, Woolworth's, that's a mile or two away. I FINALLY FOUND BAGELS!!! Most of you are probably aware of my obsession with bagels. I hadn't found them when I looked at the other grocery store, Cole's, so I was super excited to finally find them! I made one the second I got home (I couldn't resist taking a few bites before I took the picture, I was way too excited):

That night Amy, B and I had a girls' night out, which was so much fun! We took the free "Party Bus" (yes, it's officially called that) to Friday's (which is actually called the Wharf Tavern, but everybody here calls it Friday's for some unknown reason (people don't even go there on Fridays...)). When we were there I met my new Aussie friend Edward, who is really nice! Amy, B and I had been planning on having a sleepover so when we got back to their apartment we put the mattresses on the floor in the living room (which is against the rules... woops!) and watched Finding Nemo! It was such a fun night!

Mat didn't go out with us but we took pictures with him anyway!

 Me and B! :)

 Me and Amy!

 Love them!!!

 YAY Mat!

I have Wednesdays off, so the next day I hammocked on my porch all day and then we had a bonfire on the beach that night! It was SO fun! Bonfires aren't allowed on the main beaches here so we had to go to a secluded beach, which was awesome!

All in all, it was a magical week! That weekend we went to Brisbane ("Brissy"), but I'll make a new post about that soon! :)

Love and miss you all! <3

  1. Is it bad that I'm taken off guard when Germans aren't blonde? I've been hanging out with Jimmy too much... I'm also dying laughing that you managed to pack your hammock! My mom suggested that I could get one for our porch at school and I just thought about you!
